Julius K Dossen, who holds both an undergraduate and graduate degrees in Accounting and Financial Management from the University of Washington and City University respectively, is the imaginative, creative and visionary founder of SASSA BIENNE EXQUISITIVE TASTE restaurant. The Culinary maverick passion for bringing together and showcasing the flavorful cuisines from both cultures of the Sub region of West Africa, primarily, Liberia and that of the Caribbean has always been his dream. An environment where people can experience authentic ethnic flavors and warm hospitality is what shaped SASSA BIENNE EXQUISITE Restaurant.
For Julius it’s all about the food, the flavors and the feelings. This humble, modest and unassuming journey began almost fifteen years ago along with his former in-law and when they established a retail mobile food establishment (food truck vending operations) that over its evolution has gained a loyal, devoted, committed, dedicated, and faithful following. SASSA is known for the intriguing flavors he brings to the table, Influenced and inspired by watching his Mom from a very, very early age ran and operated the family canteen food establishment back home many years ago. He credits his Dad who is with our Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven, his Mom and his former in-law.
Julius takes tremendous pride and time in the preparation of his food and truly believes that the most important thing about a great dish is that it evokes a happy memory. “I look at food as evocative and nostalgic,” he says. “Somebody should remember something when they taste my food.” Julius sees food as a simile for the community and society at large. Making different flavors work together is basically the same as creating understanding between cultures. It’s all about enhancing things by making them work with something very different, he says. “The more we audition it with food, the easier it will be for people to come together as a community and society and discuss their differences, and thereby sensing how much we all have in common.
